How it works
Wired right. Hidden clean.
From the first walk-through to the moment your tub starts heating, one licensed electrician sees the job through. Here's what to expect.
01
Free on-site visit
Before delivery, we walk your property, check your panel's capacity and plan the best route for the circuit and spot for the disconnect. You get a detailed estimate to review.
02
Ready before delivery day
Before the tub shows up, or on delivery day, we run the dedicated circuit and set the GFCI disconnect so everything is ready for the delivery crew.
03
Final connection at the tub
Once the tub is in its final spot, we make the connections at the tub. Your home's power stays on while we work.
04
Power-up and walkthrough
We stay until the tub is on and working, then show you how to test the GFCI so you know it's protecting your family.
Safety walkthrough
We don't leave until you know how to test your GFCI.
The GFCI is the safety device that protects everyone in the water. Before we pack up, we stand at the disconnect with you and show you exactly how to test it.
Step 1
Press TEST
With the tub running, press the TEST button on the GFCI breaker inside the disconnect.
Step 2
Confirm it trips
The breaker should trip and the tub should shut off. If it doesn't, don't use the tub. Give us a call.
Step 3
Reset
Switch the breaker fully off, then back on to restore power. Repeat the test once a month.
“Chris did a great job installing the electrical for our new hot tub. The wires were hidden perfectly and he walked me through the electrical panel and how to test it to confirm the [GFCI] is working properly.”

Common questions
Hot tub electrical FAQs
Don't see your question here? Call us at (972) 804-0805 and we'll walk you through it.
What's included in your hot tub installation?
Our goal is an all-in-one experience. A member of our team visits before delivery to plan the electrical connections and give you a detailed estimate. Before or on delivery day, a technician gets everything ready for the delivery crew. Once the tub is in its final position, we make the final connections and stay until the tub is on and working.
Do you charge to come out for an estimate?
No. All on-site visits and estimates are free.
Will you have to turn off the power during installation?
No. The work can be done safely without shutting off the main power to your home.
What size breaker does a hot tub need?
It depends on the tub. Most full-size 240-volt hot tubs need a dedicated, GFCI-protected circuit in the 40 to 60 amp range, based on the manufacturer's specifications. We size the breaker and wire to your tub's nameplate rating.
Can I plug my hot tub into a regular outlet?
Some smaller 120-volt "plug-and-play" tubs can plug in, but they still need a dedicated, GFCI-protected outlet and should never run on an extension cord. Most full-size tubs need a hardwired 240-volt circuit.
Where does the disconnect go?
Electrical code calls for a disconnect within sight of the hot tub and at least 5 feet away from it, so power can be shut off quickly without reaching over the water. We'll find a spot that meets code and works for your yard.
How often should I test the GFCI?
Once a month. Press TEST on the GFCI breaker, confirm the tub shuts off, then switch the breaker fully off and back on. If it doesn't trip, stop using the tub and give us a call.
Do you provide a warranty on the work?
Yes. All of our work is backed by a 5-year parts and labor warranty.
Do you offer other electrical services?
Absolutely. Protek Electric is a licensed and insured electrical contractor and handles jobs big and small, from panel upgrades and lighting to EV chargers and Generac standby generators.
