What we do

Whole home generator service, start to finish

Most generator problems start small. A weak battery, a corroded connection or a missed oil change won't show up until the power goes out. We find those things early and fix them right.

Maintenance

Scheduled service that keeps your Generac standby generator ready, with factory parts and a full clean when we're done.

Diagnostics

If it won't start, won't stay running or isn't powering the house, we track down the cause, not just clear the alarm.

Warranty repairs

As a Generac Authorized Service Dealer, we check your coverage, make the repair and file the claim with Generac for you.

Out-of-warranty repairs

Batteries, starters, controllers, fuses and more. The most common parts ride on our truck.

Didn't buy it from us? No problem.

We service Generac and Briggs & Stratton generators no matter who installed them.

Power's out and the generator isn't helping?

Start with the status light

Your Generac's status light tells you a lot before anyone touches a tool. Here's what Generac says each color means.

Two safe things to check

N

Make sure the controller is set to AUTO, not OFF or MANUAL.

N

If you have the Mobile Link app, open it to see the exact alert.

Please don't open the generator, work inside the transfer switch, or loosen gas fittings. These hold live electrical and fuel connections. Leave the error code on the screen; it helps us diagnose faster.

After-hours fees apply unless you're a dealer remote monitoring customer.

Green: ready

Solid means it's in AUTO and ready. Flashing means it's running or about to start after an outage.

Yellow: needs attention

Maintenance is due or there's a warning. The generator should still run, but have it looked at soon.

Red: alarm

The generator is off or has shut down on a fault. Most alarms need a service dealer.

Generac repairs

What usually goes wrong, and why

These are the problems we find most often on service calls around Royse City and Rockwall. Symptoms can overlap, so treat these as a starting point, not a diagnosis.

Most common no-start cause

Batteries

This is the most common reason a generator won't start. Batteries wear out, and corrosion on the terminals can stop a good battery from doing its job. We load-test the battery and clean or repair the connections, not just glance at the voltage.

Rodents & surges

Controller damage

The controller is the generator's brain. We see controllers fail after rodents get inside the enclosure and chew wiring, and after electrical surges. A damaged controller can mean no start, false alarms, or a generator that won't run its weekly exercise.

Preventable

Missed maintenance

A generator is like a car: skip the oil changes and it gets less reliable. Old oil, a clogged air filter or worn spark plugs can keep it from starting or running when you need it.

Not broken, just overworked

Overload

If the house asks for more power than the generator can make, it shuts itself off to protect itself. It isn't broken; it's been asked to do too much. Knowing your generator's limits matters, and too many owners were never told.

Transfer switch

Running, but no power in the house

If the generator runs but your lights stay off, the problem may be in the transfer switch, the equipment that moves your home from utility power to generator power. That's work for a licensed electrician, and it's exactly what we do.

Common alerts

Common alerts, in plain English

Seeing a code on the controller or in the app? Here's what the three we hear about most actually mean.

Overcrank (code 1100)

The engine turned over but didn't start after repeated tries, so the controller stopped cranking. Generac lists causes such as a closed fuel valve, low fuel pressure, a dirty air filter or a weak battery (Generac). If clearing the alarm doesn't fix it, leave the code on the screen and call us.

RPM sense loss (codes 1500 to 1521)

The controller isn't getting a valid engine-speed signal while starting or running. Generac lists weak batteries and corroded cables, fuel problems, overloads and missed maintenance among the causes (Generac). If it comes back, it needs a technician.

Overload, remove load (codes 2100 to 2103)

The house is drawing more than the generator is rated for, so it shut down. Turn off non-essential loads before it's restarted. If it keeps happening, the load needs to be managed or the generator may be undersized (Generac). We can walk you through what your unit can handle.

Generac maintenance

More than an oil change

Your generator's weekly exercise tells you it can start. A maintenance visit makes sure it can carry your home through an outage. Here's what we do, in order:

1

We look at the unit together.

Before we start, we walk around the generator with you and go over exactly what's included, so there are no surprises.

2

Oil and oil filter change.

Fresh Generac oil and a new filter protect the engine during long outage runs.

3

New air filter and spark plugs.

Clean air and a strong spark help it start on the first try.

4

Battery load test.

We connect a load tester that reports the battery's health, capacity and voltage, so we know whether it's good, getting weak, or due for replacement. We also check the terminals for corrosion.

5

Fuel check, including fuel pressure.

The generator needs the right gas pressure to start and to hold up under load.

6

Firmware updates.

When Generac releases an update for your controller, we install it.

7

Valve adjustment at break-in, when needed.

New Guardian units get their valves checked and adjusted at the 25-hour break-in service.

8

A thorough cleaning, inside and out.

Our goal is for your generator to look as good as it did the day it was installed.

How often should a Generac be serviced?

Generac's minimum is an oil change every 200 run hours or every 2 years, whichever comes first. Units that run in temperatures above 85°F need it every 100 hours (Generac).

North Texas summers qualify, so we recommend service every year or every 100 run hours, depending on how much yours runs.

Dealer remote monitoring

We'll know about a problem before the next outage does

Most generator failures happen quietly, weeks before anyone notices. A battery weakens, a warning comes up, the weekly exercise doesn't run. With dealer remote monitoring, your generator reports to us as well as to you.

N

Instant alerts to us. When your generator reports a warning or fault, we're notified right away, even if you never open the app.

N

Priority service. Monitoring customers move to the front of the line, whether that means a remote diagnosis or a visit.

N

No after-hours fees. If your generator goes down after hours, you won't pay an after-hours charge.

N

Ready for the next outage. Problems get fixed between storms, not during them.

N

$50 a year, no commitment. Add it to any maintenance visit.

Photo placeholder · Mobile Link app on a phone (no personal data)

Is your generator even online?

Here's what we find most often: owners don't know their generator can connect to Generac's Mobile Link app, because nobody set it up. Most recent Generac home standby generators can connect over Wi-Fi, and cellular connections are available too. Once connected, the app shows your generator's status and alerts on your phone, so you don't have to walk outside and read the status light.

Not sure if yours is connected? We'll check during your next visit and get it set up.

Generac & Briggs & Stratton warranty service

How a warranty repair works with us

Only a Generac Authorized Service Dealer can handle warranty claims with Generac (Generac). We're one, and we're authorized for Briggs & Stratton warranty repairs too. Here's what happens when you call:

Step 1

We check your coverage.

We look up your generator's serial number in Generac's dealer system, so you know where you stand before any work begins.

Step 2

We diagnose the problem.

If the repair is covered, you don't pay a diagnostic or trip charge.

Step 3

Simple repairs happen right away.

Most minor warranty repairs don't need Generac's approval first, and the common parts are already on our truck.

Step 4

Major parts get Generac's approval.

Engines, stators and alternators need Generac to sign off first. We handle that request.

Step 5

We file all the paperwork.

You don't deal with claim forms. If a part has to be ordered, it usually arrives within a week.

What the warranty usually doesn't cover

Generator warranties vary by model and purchase date, but they typically exclude (example Generac warranty statement):

M

Routine maintenance, like oil changes and tune-ups

M

Starting batteries, fuses and engine fluids

M

Normal wear and tear

M

After-hours or emergency labor

Out of warranty? We still fix it.

A diagnostic and trip charge applies, and we'll give you a clear price before any repair.

Real service calls

What we actually find

Overload

2 a.m., middle of winter. The generator shut off during an outage.

The call

A homeowner's generator, installed by another company, turned off in the middle of a winter outage and left the family in the dark. They called us because we're local.

What we found

Nothing was broken. The generator had been overloaded. Nobody had ever explained what it could and couldn't run at the same time.

The fix

We reset the unit, got the power back on that night, and walked the owner through its limits so it wouldn't happen again.

The lesson: Knowing what your generator can carry matters as much as the generator itself.

Battery & transfer switch

A storm on the way, and a generator that wouldn't turn on.

The call

With a winter storm about to roll through, a customer called because his generator wouldn't start.

What we found

Two problems: corroded battery connections, and a blown fuse in the transfer switch.

The fix

We repaired the battery connections, replaced the fuse, and the generator started right up.

The lesson: He was ready before the storm hit. Corrosion builds slowly, and it's one of the first things we check on every maintenance visit.

Owner questions

Generac service questions we hear most

Can you service a generator you didn't install?

Yes. We service, maintain and repair Generac and Briggs & Stratton air-cooled home standby generators no matter who installed them, including warranty repairs.

Does maintenance affect my warranty?

Generac recommends that scheduled maintenance from the owner's manual be done by an authorized dealer, so there's a service record if a warranty question comes up. We document every visit.

Is maintenance covered by the warranty?

No. Routine maintenance, batteries and fluids are typically excluded from generator warranties. Repairs to defective parts are what the warranty covers.

How long does a battery last?

It depends on age, heat and how the generator has been maintained. That's why we load-test the battery at every visit rather than replacing it on a schedule. You'll see the results before we recommend anything.

What's the 25-hour break-in service?

Generac calls for an oil and filter change after the first 25 hours of run time on new units, plus a valve check and adjustment on Guardian models without hydraulic lifters (Generac).

How long does a repair take?

Many repairs are done on the first visit because we carry batteries, starters, controllers, fuses and maintenance kits on the truck. If a part has to be ordered, it usually arrives within a week.

Do you service whole home generators from other brands?

We service air-cooled Generac and Briggs & Stratton home standby generators.

Can you get my generator ready before storm season?

Yes. Schedule a maintenance visit before summer heat or winter storms, and we'll make sure it's ready to carry your home.
