Generac standby generators for Lavon’s new homes, and the ones going up now

Lavon homes run from about 1,800 to 4,000 square feet, and most have natural gas. Protek Electric sizes, permits and installs Generac home standby generators across Lavon, including homes that are still being built.

Still building your Lavon home?

Start the generator install while your home is going up

If your home is still under construction, we can pre-install the wiring, the transfer switch and anything else that runs inside the walls before the sheetrock goes up. That’s especially helpful in a two-story home, where some areas are hard to reach once the walls are closed.

1

During construction

We plan it with you

Before sheetrock, we run the wiring and set the transfer switch while the walls are still open.

2

When the home is finished

We set the generator

With everything inside the walls already done, setting the generator is faster and cleaner, with no cutting into finished drywall.

3

Move-in

Power that’s ready

We start up the generator and coordinate with Oncor, so your new home is covered from the first storm.

Building now? Tell us where your home is in the build, and we’ll plan the generator around it.

In a new Lavon neighborhood, the HOA comes first

Adding a generator to a newly built home is mostly about one thing: your HOA’s requirements. Newer neighborhoods tend to have clear rules on where equipment can go and how it’s screened, so we plan placement around them from the start.

Your HOA, step by step

1

We read the rules

We check what your HOA requires for placement and screening before we pick a spot.

2

We prepare the request

We put together what the HOA needs to review and coordinate the approval with you.

3

You handle any screening

Any fencing, screening or cover the HOA asks for is built by a contractor you hire. Protek doesn’t build those.

A house at night during a storm with every window dark. Refrigerator, lights, internet, air conditioning and pool equipment are all off.

Utility power: off. No lights, no AC, no refrigerator, no Wi-Fi, and no way to know how long it will last.

Generator power: on. Lights, AC, refrigerator and Wi-Fi back in about 30 seconds, automatically, while the neighbors wait it out.

Damaging winds over Lavon

During a tornado warning, winds that may have reached 80 mph tore the drive-thru canopy off a Lavon bank. The next morning, Oncor still had nearly 30,000 North Texas customers without power, including thousands in Collin County.

The winter storm

As the Texas grid failed, rolling blackouts lasted from hours to days. A newer home doesn’t keep the power on when the grid goes down.

Lavon FAQ

Lavon generator questions

Talk to the team that does the work

Questions about a home you’re building or one you just moved into? Give us a call.

Can you start my generator install while my Lavon home is being built?

Yes. Before the sheetrock goes up, we can pre-install the wiring, the transfer switch and anything else that runs inside the walls. It’s especially worth doing in a two-story home, where some areas are hard to get to after the walls are closed. Once the home is finished, we set the generator and complete the install.

What should I know about adding a generator to a brand-new home?

Mostly your HOA. Newer Lavon neighborhoods tend to spell out where equipment can sit and how it has to be hidden from the street, so we pick a spot that fits and handle the approval paperwork with the board. If they want it fenced or screened, a contractor you hire handles that part.

Does Lavon require a permit for a standby generator?

Yes. We apply for the permit and schedule the inspections. Most permits come through in 7 to 14 days.

Do Lavon homes run generators on natural gas?

Most Lavon homes have natural gas, so the generator connects to your existing gas line. Our authorized plumbing subcontractor does the gas piping.

What size generator does a Lavon home need?

Lavon homes typically run 1,800 to 4,000 square feet, but size alone doesn’t decide it. We do a load calculation on what you want to keep running.
